Je ne connaissais de ce philosophe que ses travaux sur le th\u00e9\u00e2tre, dont on ne peut pas dire \u2013 malgr\u00e9 leur finesse et leur originalit\u00e9 \u2013 qu\u2019ils soient le c\u0153ur de son \u0153uvre consid\u00e9rable. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Je savais aussi l\u2019importance de sa r\u00e9flexion sur Auguste Comte, le maitre du positivisme, grand inspirateur de la IIIe R\u00e9publique, presque n\u00e9glig\u00e9 en ces ann\u00e9es 1980 malgr\u00e9 tout ce que sa philosophie r\u00e9v\u00e8le, notamment, sur l\u2019\u00e9tranget\u00e9 de la la\u00efcit\u00e9 \u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise. J\u2019avais \u00e9galement souvenir la haute estime laquelle le tenait le th\u00e9ologien Henri de Lubac (1896-1991) rencontr\u00e9 quelques ann\u00e9es auparavant et qui s\u2019\u00e9tait lui aussi int\u00e9ress\u00e9 \u00e0 Auguste Comte dans Le Drame de l\u2019humanisme ath\u00e9e.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Autant dire qu\u2019Henri Gouhier n\u2019\u00e9tait pas du tout \u00e0 la mode alors que la fin du XXe si\u00e8cle se d\u00e9roulait sous l\u2019 \u00ab empire de l\u2019\u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re \u00bb, comme l\u2019\u00e9crivait Gilles Lipovetsky. C\u2019\u00e9tait donc l\u2019occasion de d\u00e9couvrir une tradition philosophique fran\u00e7aise n\u00e9glig\u00e9e et parfois m\u00e9pris\u00e9e.
Les entretiens se d\u00e9roul\u00e8rent en janvier et f\u00e9vrier 1990. Nous avions pr\u00e9vu de retravailler la transcription afin d\u2019en tirer un livre pour les \u00e9ditions Fran\u00e7ois Bourin. Malheureusement Henri Gouhier ne put la mener \u00e0 bien, absorb\u00e9 par la r\u00e9daction d\u2019un hommage \u00e0 son ma\u00eetre Etienne Gilson (1884-1978) – pionnier d\u2019une nouvelle approche de la philosophie m\u00e9di\u00e9vale et de Thomas d\u2019Aquin. Il mourut en 1994 avant de se remettre aux Entretiens<\/em>. La transcription fut retravaill\u00e9e et annot\u00e9e tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment par l\u2019\u00e9pouse du philosophe, Marie-Laure Gouhier, et par Giulia Belgioioso, professeure \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 de Lecce (Italie). Elles enrichirent \u00e9galement l\u2019ouvrage de textes in\u00e9dits et d\u2019une importante postface de Giulia Belgioioso.
Les entretiens s\u2019attachent d\u2019abord aux ann\u00e9es de formation d\u2019Henri Gouhier \u2013 fin de la Grande Guerre, d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1920 – marqu\u00e9es par sa r\u00e9flexion sur l\u2019\u00e9gotisme de Maurice Barr\u00e8s. Le philosophe retrace ensuite son exploration des \u0153uvres de ceux qu\u2019il pr\u00e9sente comme ses intercesseurs : Descartes, Malebranche, F\u00e9nelon, Maine de Biran, Rousseau, Auguste Comte, Bergson et Gilson. Car loin de ne proposer qu\u2019une histoire de la philosophie \u2013 remarquable en soi \u2013 l\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019Henri Gouhier est une m\u00e9ditation tr\u00e8s personnelle sur les auteurs dont il assure la transmission. Ces entretiens s\u2019ach\u00e8vent par son \u00e9tude du th\u00e9\u00e2tre, qu\u2019il consid\u00e8re comme un \u00ab art du temps \u00bb.
